Clickbait articles

For this assignment, we were instructed to write about two clickbait articles. This was inspired by the movie, which is based on a true story, called Richard Jewell. Richard Jewell found a bomb in Atlanta in 1996 and was falsely accused by the media of planting it. Through this movie, we were able to learn about responsible reporting and how false reports and inaccurate facts can ruin people’s lives. To complete this assignment, I checked out my favorite clickbait, fake news website, the Sun. The Sun is a tabloid that reports on anything and everything including, celebrity gossip, current events, and sports. The first article I found was titled “MINI MARTIANS AI predicts what children born on Mars will look like – and the results are creepily realistic and unsettling.” And the second one was “GRUESOME END Ancient mummified child was drugged with psychedelics before ritual sacrifice to gods, scientists reveal.” Both of these articles have very sensational and misleadi...

Important Dates

Image
For this assignment, we are exploring important dates for different people. I choose to compare my three most memorable dates to my older sister's dates, Kate. Kate and I have a five-year age gap but were still very close growing up. I expected us to have different dates yet still be familiar with the dates the other person selected.      For my first date, I choose January 3rd, 2012. This was the day we adopted my dog, Beau, from the ASPCA. I was in fifth grade. For Christmas that year the only thing I wanted was a puppy. Christmas came and went, but no puppy. I remember being grateful for the gifts I did receive but devastated I still didn't have a dog. Christmas break ended on January 3rd, and I returned to school with everyone asking if I finally had a dog. It appeared my classmates were just as disappointed as I was that I was still pet-less. However, when I returned home from school my parents told my sisters and me to get in the car. They drove us to the ASPC...

Census infographic: Who is receiving Social safety net benefits

Image
For my infographic, I chose a post from the Us Census Bureau. This graphic shows social safety nets provided by the US federal government. Social safety nets are also called welfare. I found this particular set of statistics interesting because it dispels a common misconception. Some people believe that social safety nets are disproportionately drained by minorities. However, this shows that white Americans receive the most from social safety nets. Also, white and black Americans are represented equally in proportion to their population. It is important to remember that there is nothing shameful or wrong with receiving assistance from the government. The programs are there to help to struggling Americans and should be used by those in need.

All About Me- An introduction

Hello! Welcome to my blog.        I am creating this website for my Comm 232 class at Christopher Newport University. I am currently a junior who is majoring in Political Science with a minor in National Security. You might be wondering what a poli sci girl is doing in a communications class. I am taking this class to satisfy a creative expression credit, which I need to graduate.     Now to tell you a little about myself.  I enjoy playing video games, making jewelry, hanging out with friends, and babysitting. Some of my favorite video games are God of War, Grand Theft Auto, The Last of Us, and Call of Duty Modern Warfare. I enjoy God of War and the Last of Us because they have heartfelt stories, and I am a sucker for a good story. The reason I play Grand Theft Auto, and Call of duty is for the online play. I really enjoy meeting new friends and connecting with people through games.      I have recently started making rings f...
